I'd rather be Solzhenitsyn than silent

I think a poet should be more willing to be Solzhenitsyn than silent. A speaker of the truths of the heart, not his heart, but the heart of the earth and people on it, in it and above it.

A poet should learn with his eyes
the forms of leaves
learn the languages of many people
know oceans and mountains in themselves

The forms of leaves
allow his mind to enter into the seasons
know oceans and mountains in themselves
as they know the sun and the moon and the stars

Allow his mind to enter into the seasons
see what people are really like
as they know the sun and the moon and the stars
living with tears and laughter through their seasons

See what people are really like
go among them in many places
living with tears and laughter through their seasons
learn what moves them to laughter when they are together

Go among them in many places
learn their languages
learn what moves them to laughter when they are together
A poet should learn with his eyes
